A Team for Specialized Dental Care

We are a team of dental specialists for infants, children and teenagers. Because of additional specialized dental training and because we limited our practice strictly to infants, children and teenagers, we keep current on the latest diagnosis and treatment procedures for young people. Our staff, equipment, and physical facilities are all oriented to these young people to accommodate their physical and psychological needs. Our primary focus is on their attitudes and habits so that dental care can be a pleasant experience for them.

Our team consists of us as dental specialists, our highly trained and bilingual auxiliary staff, you the parent, and your child or teenager. We all work together for one common goal - prevention and treatment of dental problems and injuries. Much of our treatment is educational for both parent and child. Rewarding personal relationships between young people and our dental team can lay the foundation for a lifetime of good dental health. The preventive dental care infants, children and teenagers receive today will play a major role in determining their dental health as adults and parents.

A Lifetime of Good Dental Health Starts Early

Just as the physician monitors physical growth and development from infancy through teenage years, our dental team needs to evaluate dental health before problems occur. By age two, ten percent of children have dental decay, but by age three over fifty percent have decaying teeth. By the teenage years, eighty percent of these young adults have some beginning signs of gum disease and over eleven cavities. Obviously the answer is for early and regular dental visits beginning before 2 years of age and continuing thorough high school.
After a thorough examination of the mouth, a personalized home dental care program is discussed including tooth brushing, dietary, and fluoride recommendations. Often at this first visit the child's teeth may be professionally cleaned, fluoride topically applied, and X -rays taken when necessary to aid in diagnosis and treatment planning. As the child grows, we are also able to recognize the need for early treatment of bite problems if they occur.

Our practice does not simply fill cavities, but it strives to achieve good dental health before problems and injuries occur.

Our Special People and Place

Going to the dentist for a child or teenager is often thought to be an unpleasant experience. It doesn't have to be anymore. Our offices offer a colorful environment and lots of smiling faces. Open reception and treatment areas with lots of sunshine, music, and video games eliminate most fears and anxieties. Our caring staff put young people at ease. All procedures are explained thoroughly.

We encourage parents and young people to visit our offices for a look. Our parents are often surprised and pleased that their child or teenager look upon us as friends as well as health professionals. Many actually look forward to their visits with us. The atmosphere of trust and cooperation enables them to experience a rewarding and positive relationship. This inspires them to follow the home care program that we have recommended. You'll probably wish there were an office like ours when you were a child.

Our convenient office hours and locations, our twenty-four hour answering service, our bilingual staff, and our accommodation to your financial and insurance situations help make dental care available to all infants, children and teenagers.

Children's Miracle Network

Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital joined the Children's Miracle Network (CMN) in 1989 and is one of over 160 hospitals throughout North America that make up the Children's Miracle Network. CMN is best known nationally through it's telethon broadcast live from Disneyland each June. As with all hospitals in the network, 100 percent of the money raised, through special events and the telethon, stays in our community to help meet the health needs of our children and teenagers.

Children's Dental Center

Monterey County has over 100,000 children and teenagers; Over one quarter of them are from low income and less fortunate families. Less than twenty percent of them receive regular dental care. Many of these children and teenagers suffer from dental problems that go untreated.

Children's Dental Center is dedicated to providing comprehensive dental care in a caring atmosphere to those children and teenagers whose dental problems go untreated due to the lack of both adequate facility for care and financial aid for treatment.

Roger G. Sanger, D.D.S., M.S., M.S., Peter C.J. Chiang, D.D.S., all pediatric dental specialists, with financial assistance from Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital Children's Miracle Network, established the Children's Dental Center in 1995. Paul J. Morris, D.D.S., Marielena Murillo, D.D.S., also pediatric dental specialists and Kenji B. Saisho, M.D., D.D.S., general dentist, have since joined and formed the Central Coast Pediatric Dental Group that owns and operates Children's Dental Center. Years of planning and coordination were necessary between the Monterey County Maternal and Children Health Advisory Board, Health Department; Office of Education; Migrant Education Program, Headstart Program, Child Health Disability Prevention Program, Women, Infants, and Children's Program, Natividad Medical Center, and the State of California Aid For Dependent Children Medical Dental Program. All of these agencies now assist the Children's Miracle Network Dental Center in improving the access to dental care for indigent children and teenagers.

Children's Dental Center is staffed by a highly trained team of bilingual dentists and dental assistants who are dedicated to working with children, teenagers, and their parents. Treatment consists of both educational prevention programs as well as comprehensive dental services. Governmental program funding from Medical (Dentical), Healthy Families, Healthy Start, Headstart, Migrant Education, California Kids and Children Health and Disability Prevention (CHDP), as well as private foundation support is accepted for financial aid for treatment.

Board; Health Department; Office of Education; Migrant Education Program; Headstart Program; Child Health Disability Prevention Program; Women, Infants, and Children's Program; Natividad Medical Center, y State of California Aid for Dependent Children Medical Dental Program. Todas estas agencias asisten a Children's Miracle Network Dental Center en mejorar el acceso al cuidado dental para niños y adolescentes de bajos recursos.
